We guess the main question on everybody’s lips is…what on earth is blockchain? Put simply, blockchain is the most secure way of sharing and storing information, guaranteeing no one can hack into the network and change containing elements.
Ok…but why is that important?
Great question. So, using our assets as an example let’s say you acquire an Afropunk NFT, which in this case is a digital image, and look to keep it for a while in order to realise increases in its value. However the problem with a typical digital image is anyone that comes across it can simply right click, select download and save a version of it to their computer. With this simple action the person can now claim they have an exact version of your NFT, right? Well, no, not exactly.
With blockchain technology when an asset is created it can be made a fungible or non-fungible asset. NFT’s by nature are non-fungible which simply means each NFT is a 1 of 1 making them impossible to duplicate. This is because each NFT is designated a hash code that shows ownership of the unique token associated with the particular digital asset. Therefore once acquired, you have 100% ownership rights over your Afropunk NFT and can use it however you please, whether as a collectible to impress your social circle or as a source of representation within the fast approaching virtual world.

With the creation and ongoing developments of the Metaverse, a digital universe replicating virtual & augmented reality, we see Afropunks as not only unique collectibles but also potential digital assets that owners can use as representation of self within virtual worlds.
